What is the CloudDancer Scholarship?
The Ashton Johnson Memorial Scholarship is intended to help veterans interested in pursuing careers in aviation. We’re looking for veterans with honorary military performance along with passion, drive and tenacity either starting off or in the process of private pilot training.
The application window for the CloudDancer Scholarship is currently closed. We will be accepting new application again in Spring, 2026, so please check back. We appreciate your interest in the CloudDancer Scholarship.
Scholarship Applicants and Applications MUST:
- Not already have a PPL
- Be a member of the US Military or retired from service with an honorable discharge.
- Have an FAA Airman Medical valid for 1st or 2nd Class privileges at time of application and selection.
- Please review this link for CFR 61.23 and ask any questions before submitting.
- Fill out the prerequisite scholarship questions and references
- Submit a 1-2 page essay detailing:
- your background both in and out of the military
- your goals in an aviation career
- what this scholarship would mean to you
**PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION**
Any incomplete or incorrectly submitted applications will be removed from consideration and the applicant will be advised to submit during the next opening.
The top 5 applicants will complete a computer based aptitude test no later than 5pm of the following 5th business day. Upon receiving the results of each test and any further necessary review of the scholarship committee, a total of 3 scholarships winners will be selected for the Spring 2025 application period.
Award Amounts
Each recipient will receive distributions in the following amounts after the completion of the task.
- Upon selection and completion of PPL written – $3000
- Completion of First Solo – $3000
- Completion of Solo XC – $2000
- Completion of Check Ride – $2000
